Hans Thiessen

Partner and Creative Director, Rethink

Outside of work, Hans enjoys spending time with his wife and four sons – only seven shy of a perfectly kerned soccer team.

Terri Roberts

Creative Director, Ray Creative Agency

Terri has spent nearly two decades in advertising, selling everything from airlines to wieners. She’s so old, she remembers docket bags. She also recalls (fondly) filling out timesheets by carving them into trees using very sharp stones.

Despite her advanced age, she’s still really into big ideas, well-crafted copy, and beautiful design.

She’s helped to create successful campaigns for brands like Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism, McCain, Maple Leaf, Irving Oil, Air Canada, Lamb’s Rum, Air Labrador, Opera on the Avalon, Quidi Vidi Beer, Cape Breton University, and the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador.

One of the most decorated copywriters in Atlantic Canada, Terri has won a host of metal bits and pieces for her work in shows like LlA, Applied Arts, ADCC, Marketing, Extras, Crystals, Atomic, CASSIES, Canadian Marketing Awards, Media Innovation Awards, HSMAI, Promo Awards, and ICE. Sometimes she even makes the list of Top Copywriters in Canada by Strategy Magazine.

Terri has been a repeat judge for the Crystals and recently co-chaired the 2019 ICE Awards (the east coast ACE equivalent). She also once sat on a ‘panel of experts’ with designer Aaron Draplin and managed not to shit herself.

Jacqueline Lane

Executive Creative Director, Public Address

Jacqueline Lane is an Executive Creative Director at Public Address and Design Educator at Miami Ad School, where she shares her passion of Typography to the next generation of creative minds.

While working on projects for large global brands and small businesses alike, she is dedicated to creating meaningful concepts, strategic narratives and crafted executions. With over 14 years in the industry, her thoughtful approach is informed by her background as an award-winning designer (D&AD, Communication Arts,  The Advertising & Design Club of Canada, Applied Arts) as well as by her diverse experiences working with global brands at some of Canada’s top agencies (Bruce Mau, John St., Jackman Reinvents).

Jacqueline is colour obsessed and is always looking for ways to inject play into her work and fun into the process. When not in design mode, you’ll find her surfing and hiking with her husband and dog. Jacqueline lives and works in Toronto.

CO-CHAIRS

Tyson Dueck

ACE Co-Chair, Burke Group

Sherin Noroozi

ACE Awards Co-Chair, ZGM

For the past 41 years, the ACE Awards has celebrated the creativity of the agencies, freelancers, and advertising professionals within our tight-knit community. There is no doubt that the Edmonton marketing community is one that is filled with talent, passion, and ingenuity. As such, it is no surprise that the work put forth this year was creative, inspired, and innovative. It is safe to say that we are incredibly impressed by the high caliber of the submissions and the quality of work that was presented to the judges.

This year, in particular, presented a unique set of challenges. Due to COVID-19, we were forced to rethink the entirety of the awards and move towards an online format. Although we are saddened that we weren’t able to come together in-person as a community to celebrate the remarkable work from this past year, we are grateful to still have the opportunity to commemorate the creativity and originality of our industry. It is an industry that is rich with resourcefulness, gumption, and imagination that breaks through the barriers of the norm. We feel fortunate to be a part of this industry.

We are thankful to have the opportunity to be your Co-Chairs for the 2020 ACE Awards. Although it differed in many ways from what is expected of our award show, we are honoured to be able to bring this show to light especially considering the circumstances under which we operated. We are equally grateful to be partnered with Studio Hazel and Hoopla Media that have the brilliant mix of talent and resourcefulness required to bring an online show to life. We are also appreciative of the immense support that we have received from the community as well as our sponsors during these rather turbulent, unpredictable times. It wouldn’t be possible without your support.
